  1. You can extend your blooming by getting reblooming daylilies.  Stella D'Oro is a rebloomer, which is why it's grown so often.

There are a lot of rebloomers available, some doing much better than others.

Oakes Daylilies has a great selection of them, and the plants they ship are big and healthy.  They are also guaranteed forever.

  2. I have had no luck with day lillies blooming all summer.  Like other types of flowers, they only have a short cycle.

  3. Different varieties of daylillies bloom at different times. Nothing will change their bloom time or length, except for different climates and temps.

If you are looking for a long bloom time, look for "Stella De Oro". It blooms May-July in zones 3-9.

  4. I agree with Casper - the stella doro's (sp?) are the way to go. They're a beautiful bright yellow and last a long time.

To keep the blooms abundant throughout the season, be sure to pinch off the seed pods that occupy the stems after each blossom dies.

    Good luck!

  5. Stella D'oro is the smaller, bright yellow version that has the longest and most prolific bloom season, and you can keep it reblooming longest by deadheading -- pop the bulbous growth off after the flower has died away. This makes the plant think it has to produce more flowers. This plant is easy to get starts from -- most landscapers use it because it has such a long bloom season and because it is very reliable.

  6. You don't. They will only bloom for a couple of weeks and then their season is over. To ensure continuous colour you need to plant things that bloom at different times of the season. I have crocus coming through the snow followed by tulips, then iris, roses, peonies, etc., etc.
