  1. **when one hides e-mail, no one can see the addresses nor can you post from it. you have to post from the group site and in the inboxes all addresses appear no_reply@yahoo.com, a generic for all.

it's the groups, as stated, that don't allow this option, while on the group site adresses are not seen past the @, but are seen in the inboxes.

in my groups I dont allow the setting to hide ones addresses, then you never know who the spammers are nor can you track them, plus you then cant post from your e-mail anyway. while in groups, your exposure is there as it is on any web group, if one needs to keep a main address private, use another instead***

some groups allow hiding of e-mail addresses and in Yahoo groups, even the owner and moderators cant see them.

in groups that don't allow this option (you loose the polls when this is selected so many groups do not choose this) while on the group, only the owner and mods can see the full addresses, members only see up to the @, however they do see the full address in their inboxes.

my suggestion- use an e-mail that is web based, like gmail, hotmail, some e-mail provider that you wouldn't mind others seeing, and some of these also let you mail forward to another e-mail.

to add an e-mail to Yahoo account-

go to this link- http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs click add email address on top left- follow steps and confirm address.

then go to this link http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups click edit my groups on the top left- locate group (if there's more than one) under the column Email Address click the arrow for the drop down box and select new address- click save changes

if a person subscribes via e-mail and has no yahoo account- not much can be done

  2. you should be able to to go EDIT MEMBERSHIP And select the option to hide your email. only problem is, if the moderator/owner disallow that, than there's no much you can do about hiding email.

a suggestion would be to make a gmail or hotmail and use that as your alias instead.

If the moderator/owner allows hidden emails, you can still send email from that account. i am an  owner of several groups with several different settings. it has worked for me with the various settings i've used.

i havent used this option but i do recall seeing it when i was setting up the account when joining.
