How do I keep my goalie pads from turning sideways on me?

Hey all, thanks in advance for any feedback. I'm sitting at the computer writing this because I haven't played goalie in years and I was at a pickup game this morning and my pads kept turning sideways on me and I couldn't seem to adjust them so that they would stay in front where they belong. because of this tendency to slip sideways I took a puck in the shin and so I'm now asking anyone out there with experience:

1.) How the heck do I get my pads (rbk 34") to stay where they belong.. is it better to go real loose so I can keep whacking them into position like luongo?

2.) Is it a good idea to wear forward shin gards underneath so in the event they do slip I wont break a leg?

my legs thank you for any comments

  1. Try to pull them tighter( the straps) You may only need to tighten certain straps to keep them loose enough that you like but keep them from turning. You can wear shin guards if they are not too unconformable. The probably wont stop everything from hurting. Also you said you haven't played goalie in a year you may need newer pads. Good Luck.

  2. tighten them and if that don't work, use the second suggestion

  3. Duct Tape... lots of it.  Fixes everything

  4. Listen to Speedk0r. He has given me  many suggestions which have made me the Hockey player that I am today. He really knows what he is talking about. Award him the 10 points  for his answer & follow his advise which you will find will work.

  5. The straps that go through your skates should keep the pads from rotating (we are talking about ice hockey here, right? If not who cares if you get hit with a ball ;-) The one I really cinch tight is the heel strap. that makes the pads bend 90 degrees at the ankle and makes it very hard for them to rotate.

How well broken in are your pads? If they are still stiff, that can make them harder to work with. I keep the lower leg straps pretty tight and the upper ones really loose. I'm much more of an old-school stand-up goalie, but I'll butterfly when I have to and the loose uppers mean that pads stay flat when you bend your knees.

    Hope that helps.
