Question:

How do I keep my guitar from falling?

My problem isn't keeping the guitar itself on the strap, but keeping the strap on myself is quite difficult. You see, the genre I play (post-hardcore/screamo) tends to make me want to jump around, swing my guitar violently and head bang...a lot! And what happens when I do that? My guitar strap comes off of my shoulder. I've tried tightening the strap, but this just prevents me from comfortably playing not to mention it doesn't help it from falling off any. Any ideas?

  1. Try playing music on it, not acting like a frenzied monkey on stage.

  2. they sell relatively cheap things that go where the strap goes that are little nubs to keep the strap on. i say get that like 10$$ at guitar center

  3. As someone else mentioned, you don't say what kind of strap you're using.  Another problem could be what you're wearing?

A shirt with glossy slick material, like silk, will not work well with a poly-type strap backing.

A good leather strap, like Levi should keep the strap on your shoulder...at least 3in" wide.

Another point, and you may not like this, but ...sit in a chair and play your guitar....now stand up with your guitar and strap.

Is the guitar in the same approximate place?  Or is the guitar falling down around your knees?

It may not "look cool," but hike that guitar up to the same approximate position as when you're sitting...you'll play better and your strap will stay on your shoulder.

  4. Are you putting it on (the guitar and strap) correctly- over your head? If that's not the problem, try keeping at least your left hand on the guitar when you are jumping around.

  5. I don't know how good your strap is, but just go to the nearest guitar shop and get one with a good visual that fits what you play and ask to test it out. see how well it keeps on and then find the one you want.
