  1. ah you put a password on it :S either contact linksys by phone ( calling them is free) and they will tell you how to do it or you look on the guide that came with the product

  2. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with a Linksys router. In fact they're manufacturered by Cisco Systems and they're about the best router/switch makers in the world.

There are some things you can do to totally protect your wi-fi connection...some have already been mentioned:

    1. Use an encrypted password.

    2. Limit the DHCP service of your router to a very limited number of IP addresses or, better yet, turn off DHCP and use "static" IP addresses.

    3. Allow only YOUR MAC address access to the wireless service.

    4. Do not allow the router to broadcast its SSID (network name, which you should change from Linksys) or what channel its using. Write this stuff down and keep it safe in case you have to manually repair the wireless connection sometime.

If you do these four things your wi-fi connection will be more secure than 98% of all the rest put together.

  3. linksys routers are not known for being very good or good at all but follow the user set-up guide or download it from the manufacturer website. Plug your computer directly into the router using the provided cable and type in the address 192.168.1.1 and it will ask you for a password and login name. Leave the login name blank and the password should be "admin" that will get you into the router settings. Go to the wireless tab and select the wireless security menu and follow the on screen prompts

  4. Set a WPA2  password and set your router to not broadcast the SSID.  By doing this, to connect you need to know the name and password of the router to even see that it exists.
