Well i have a drumset and it doesn't seem very loud, but my neighbors say they can hear it even if i dont really play that loud, i heard from a few friends that keeping rugs and mattresses in the room will absorb sound , is there any truth to that?

  1. Egg crate foam or soundproof foam works pretty good.....you can't play drums "quietly" or just tell your neighbors "If it's too loud, you're too old."

  2. yes thats kida true first start with a good solid real wood door..for the walls you can get sound obsorbant panels there like rubber it think  and obv your windows are closed  the fact is tho so what if they can hear you aslong as your not playing late at night your alowed to make as much noise as you want obv within reason but your on a musical instrument so jsut do what u like

  3. Egg cartons, carpet, or blankets will not work in keeping sound from tranferring out of your room. Those treatments only work in controlling the way it sounds WITHIN your room by absorbing some of the sound. They have no effect on isolating the room from transmitting sound outside. Furthermore, those products will only have an effect on the higher frequencies; they do nothing at lower frequencies.

There is no easy way of isolation a drumset. Besides the airborne sounds, there are vibration and structure-borne sounds that also transfer elswhere.

You would need to completely isolate the room from the rest of the building or house. This would require expensive re-building of the walls with resilient channels or isolation clips. Essentially build a room within a room. There is no easy fix.

A more practical solution would be to try to work out some type of schedule. When would be a time that you could play the drums and your neighbors would tolerate the noise?

Keep the doors and window closed.

Maybe look into those practice pads you put on the drum heads to muffle the sound.

  4. before answering your question I need to know if you are renting or it's your house ? This will give a better idea of what I'm looking for .

  5. Hang thick draperies all around your room, including the windows and the door.  This will absorb the sound but you need to put air-conditioning to circulate cool air in the room.

If this cannot solve your problem, build a one-room house somewhere, far from your neighbors.

  6. Tell your neighbors to go pound sand...as long as your not playing the drums after 9:00pm they can go beat it.

  7. egg cartons, nail ( or staple) them to the wall and they will absorb the sound
