Question:

How do I keep tree roots from resprouting.?

3 years ago I cut down a locust tree. Every summer I get new sprouts. I've tried brush killer and that only stunts it.

  1. Short of digging them up, If it is coming up out of your lawn the only real way to do this and to keep from killing your lawn is probably the same thing you have been doing. Mowing them down when you cut the grass.  If it is in an area which you don't care about, there are chemicals on the market that will sanitize the soil and keep ANYTHING growing there for about a year, so be careful if you go this route. If you choose to do this, Ortho has one called Triox.

    One other way would be repeated spraying with a 2 4 d type product. such as weed b gone. this is taken back down into the plant and will kill it, but if you are talking about tree roots it will take many applications to do that.
