How do I kill ants in my garden?

We have tried everything, most of the products you can buy in gardens centres. Even some worms (?) off the internet. Today I found the biggest colony yet and after 4 kettles of boiling water, they just laughed and carried on their business. We are unable to enjoy the garden and can't let our son out as some are red ants. Please help me!

  1. i have an allotment and i swear by cornmeal to do the trick it also work well on slugs and snails

  2. I was going to suggest some powdery stuff which you can get at garden centres, but I think AbRa~Ca~DaBra is right  Flower. I suppose what I got is just that. Only I paid a lot more.

    Good luck

  3. get some [ nip on from] the shop that will do it

  4. There are three general classifications of pests: chewing, sucking, and rasping.

Chewing pests, as ants, cutworms, leaf rollers, and leaf tiers, though not so prevalent as some others, do considerable damage by chewing seedlings, cutting off stems and foliage, and destroying flowers. Ants themselves do little damage to plants, but they carry aphids and mealy bugs from plant to plant throughout the greenhouse. Since chewing pests feed on foliage, they are most easily controlled by poisons applied to the areas of the plant on which they feed "stomach" poisons which the pests consume along with the greenery. http://www.lovelygreenhouses.com/pests.p...

  5. chile pepper

Find the colony's hill and pour cornmeal (from grocery or feed store) on it. They eat the cornmeal, it expands in their stomachs and blows them up without spreading insecticide or harming other good insects.

    8-10 cloves garlic

    7 or so Tabasco Peppers

A couple spoons of Murphy's Oil Soap

    A couple spoons Canola Oil

    Habanero sauce

    a couple spoons dishsoap

"Throw it all in your mixer or Cuisinart or whatever."

Mix the ingredients with just a little water, then mix with 1 quart hot water (which was noted further down in the thread). Bluerepper let it steep; greengoddess boiled hers. I'd strain the veggie bits out with cheesecloth to make sure your spritzer bottle doesn't get gunked up. Then go to town on the bugs.

For something like a fire ant infestation, the answer seems to be to make a big bunch of this stuff and pour it in the ant nest

  6. Take a look here

  7. I use a spray killer.  I sprayed it on earlier but thought that it didn't work so I went to boil the kettle.  When I got back they were 'all' dead.  Amazing stuff.

  8. Try sprinkling regular corn meal on the mounds.  Give it a day or so then check back... They will be gone.  If it rains be sure to reapply.  I don't know why it works, but it does.  Hope this helps!

  9. This trick works well at our house:

Find two ant hills in your garden.

Dig a big shovel full out of each and dump on the other.  The ants do battle and it seriously reduces or eliminates the ant hills.

Beneficial byproduct is you get rid of the ants without poisoning the yard and killing all the frogs and toads (which help by eating other bugs).

  10. Try using , scented talcum, Cinnamon, Black pepper, Vinegar 50/50 mix, Shankleys Basic H  !/3 &2/3 water mix. In fact all highly scented vegetation such as Mint, will ward them off. Spray everything with the Vinehar mix, and the Sharkleys basic H mix, caulk all small holes they may be using, but you will need to put some time and effort in, to track the ants down

Next year at the first signs of nests, dig them out to total destruction of the nest, do not allow them to procreate.

  11. Talcom powder

  12. bleach

  13. just use bleach will kill them in secounds even the flying kind

  14. put out corn meal that should do the trick

  15. just get ant spray and kill them, use somethin strong

  16. mix a cup of bleach with a cup of dawn in a five gallon bucket.  Pour this mix on the ant hills.

  17. i just found ants nests in my grass so tipped need screen wash in their hole and they seem to be dead now
