Question:

How do I know if I'm overfeeding my twins?

My twin daughters are 6 days old, and at the hospital they were eating about 2 oz. formula per feed. The past couple of days they've been steadily increasing. One of them even ate about 5 oz. in about a 3-hour span. The only sign of overfeeding I know of is spitting up, but they don't really do this but every once in a while. How can I know if I'm overfeeding them? Is it too soon to be feeding them so much, or is it even possible that they're already experiencing a growth spurt at a week old?

  1. ask your doctor

  2. children will never over feed its us who forces them if the twins are feed and they go to sleep then they are full because babies demand when they are hungry so u are doing fine ,gradually their in take will increase

  3. You can not over feed a baby.  They have a unique mechanism that allows them to regulate the amount of calories they need by the volume of milk or formula they drink.

A breast fed baby will eat a little more frequently than a formula fed baby because breast milk is digested very quickly, but that being said a breast fed baby is just fed there are no measuring to see how much they are getting at each feed.

If your babies are hungry and are still not satisfied after 2 ounces, you should definately be offering them more.

    Good luck!
