Question:

How do I know if I am hypoglycemic?

I get really really shaky, I feel weak, no energy. I feel like I must eat now! My stomach feels empty and growls.

This is crazy, because I eat a lot! In fact, out of fear of getting this feeling again, I overate and gained 15 lbs. But I still get it. I've been tested for diabetes, but they said I didn't have it. Should I get tested when my blood sugar is low? How do I time it perfectly like that?

Does this sound like hypoglycemia? How do you deal with it? I'm thinking about carrying a pouch of nuts or seeds in my purse so when I get that feeling, I can reach for something fast.

Thanks for your advice!

  1. It sounds like you are having symptoms of hypoglycemia. I just found out a few months ago that I had hypoglycemia. Were you fasting when you were tested? Doctors usually have you take a sugar test that requires you to drink something really sweet and then draw your blood every hour for four hours. If you didn't take a test like that you may want to speak with your doctor because it sounds like you are having the same symptoms I have if I don't eat regularly. It would be a good idea to carry a snack with you in your purse.

  2. ask your doctor to check your thyroids

  3. These do sound like the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Whatever, you are right to carry some decent food to counteract it... don't do the candy bar thing. Nuts and dried fruit is a good choice.

    These symptoms can also occur with other conditions, such as intestinal yeast.

    Hypoglycemia is a disease that many doctors have trouble spotting. Find a practitioner known to have some knowledge about it. If it is what's happening, you will need to start managing your diet, getting away from refines starches and sugar.

    Good luck.

  4. People suffering from hypoglycemia have the following symptoms;

    --Intense and unexplained headaches.

    --Unsteady, dizzy and unbalanced feelings.

    --Tremors without any known reason.

    --Frequent hunger, especially soon after eating.

    --Clumsiness due to the lack of muscle control.

    --Forgetfulness and mental confusion.

    --Increased nervousness and anxiety level also increases a lot.
