Question:

How do I know if I am sexist?

We now say "he/she" when referring to someone in a profession (for example), not referring to the person as a "he". But isn't it still sexist that we say "he/she" instead of "she/he"? The "he" is listed first? So I propose a new standard. "he/she she/he". Or will women still get mad that we chose "he/she" first. So perhaps the Even moths of the year we say "she/he" (favoring the women with Even months) then on Odd months of the year we say "he/she". I think this will work better than having to say "he/she she/he". What do you think about my proposal?

  1. i think the world puts the males first and that's why is he and then she = he/she

males are always being looked forward to become the leader ad lead everybody. even the females seek protection from their husbands.

husbands always be the breadwinner of the family, if neccessary, the wives need to work too as to help their husbands.

most of the time, for responsibles males, they do a lot for their wives and children. wives are helper and supporters.

credits are given to both EQUALLY but to males first. it's just a matter of first or second but they are still FAIR !

  2. I just use s/he.  Just remove the slash if female, ignore the 's' if not female.  However, if I were to type out 'she' completely, I usually lean towards 'he/she'.

But honestly...if any woman gets too worked up about this, they seriously need to pull the stick out of their derriere.

  3. just say he or she because its in alphabetical order... is anybody really that picky?

  4. Sweetie it really is not that deep and if you keep on like this you are going to give yourself a migraine!  People of reason don't get so deep into using he/she vs she/he or whatever.  Just be yourself and stop being so nervous about everything.  Conversation is not supposed to be so complicated.  I blame the hippies and that whole yuppie PC movement.

  5. Maybe we should just have a new word - or maybe we should all just be numbers .

I say we refer to everyone as an atom

  6. Honestly, when I talk and write, I just say "he" some of the time, and "she" at other times.  All of that he/she stuff gets frustrating after a while.

And anyone who gets upset over someone saying "he" first needs to reexamine their priorities.  Sorry, but it's just silly to get upset over that.

  7. There seem to be some serious answers.  I thought this was a joke.

  8. Your question made me giggle.

I really don't notice any of that in my profession especially since the "boss" is a chain smoking she!

If you propose that I do wish you the best of luck. It seems kind of silly though unless that happens to be an actual problem. Looking at that as an actual issue is absurd. I think someone who pays attention to stuff like that in the terms of getting offended probably doesn't get out much. I propose a good lay to get the mind away from that nonsense.

  9. I think your proposal is the stupidest shiiit i've ever heard.

I'm a woman, and I don't give a d**n if you just wan to say he.

seriously, lets not take this whole policaly correct bull **** to far.

  10. i think we should just say IT xD

  11. I think you're reading way too much into this.

It's great that you use the he/she instead of just "he".

I'm sure that there will be some people (not just women) who won't like that the he comes before the she, but as long as both are being used, I don't see the problem.

Personally, I try to use (s)he when I can remember to do so.
