Question:

How do I know if I broke my thumb?

My hand got stomped on last game. I'm pretty sure that I broke the same thumb a few years ago but I never got it checked out b/c it happened in the middle of hockey season. Right now, it's swelling with no discoloration. There's no significant amount of pain, it's just that it can barely move. Should I get it checked out after my next game?

  1. i reckon checking it out wouldnt hurt.... broke my knee once playing league; big fijian from rochdale hit me like an express train. though there was no doubt i'd broken it!!!! feel for you dude.

  2. It Hurts

  3. i 'm so sorry to hear that

i think you should give up the next game and   see  doctor

  4. The best way is to have it x-rayed. If you are not able to do that at this time, another way is to take something that vibrates and touch it to the knuckle or bony area. If it is broken you will know by a pronounced increase in pain. If you have a decent pain threshold it may only be uncomfortable. If it is tolerable it may not be broken. Part of the reason you cannot move it is due to the swelling. Ice it for twenty minutes on and twenty minutes off for an hour and forty minutes. That should bring a significant change in swelling and increase your range of motion. The swelling crushes the soft nerves and inhibit your ability to contract the muscle. Best of luck!

  5. Yeah i would. My husband plays rugby and carried on for weeks with a sore hand untill a forced him to go to A&E. It was broken so i was pretty smug:-D It will heal itself but you may end up with problems if it heals wrong, plus you will suffer when youre older.

  6. Pretty obvious sign that it's broken would be pain if you are unsure get it checked out by a doctor, they can send you for an x-ray to confirm a break.
