Question:

How do I know if I have a dry socket?

I had a molar extracted four days ago. I followed all the correct steps to take care of the area after the tooth was pulled out. It is now four days later and I still have some pain and soreness in that area. I know you are supposed to have a blood cot form after a tooth is pulled, so my question is this: When I look in the mirror at the area, I see a hole. Should I see the blod clot or is the clot actually down in that hole? I just want to make sure I don't have a dry socket. Any one know what the case is? Is the clot down in there somewhere? Should I still be feeling some pain four days later? It's not horrible pain, but is still annoying.

Thanks.

  1. IF YOU HAD THE PAIN FROM A TRUE DRY SOCKET YOU'D BE IN AGONY AND THIS WOULD BE 24-48 HOURS POST EXTRACTION.

LINGERING DISCOMFORT WHICH IMPROVES DAILY IS A NORMAL RESULT FROM EXTRACTION.

  2. If your not in the most pain you have ever been in your life then you do not have a dry socket. You cannot sleep or even think when you have a dry socket and pain meds do not touch it. If your only sore that is normal but if your not in extreme pain then your doing very well.
