How do I know if I will get good satellite reception? We live at bottom of a hill & get no standard radio.?

Looking at XM Radio for our home (don't need in car at present time). What can I expect as far as reception.

You will have great reception with it as it comes off a satalite.

It's tricky.  Are you in a rural area where there are no terrestrial radio reception?  What direction is the hill?  XM has two stationary (relative to the earth) satellites in the Southern Hemisphere.  If you have a clear view of the southern sky, and can put the antenna outside you should be okay.

Xm is no worries, they are above you, and there are more than one you can face. it is not like a tv satellite, those are mainly towards new mexico. So you have to face that way
