How do I know if I will need the new converter box to make my TV pick up digital programming?

I don't have satellite or cable, but how do I know if my TV is already a digital TV?

  1. 1. Check on your TV or users manual and see if it says HDTV (then you do not need one) if it says DTV or anything else, continue to step two.

    2. Do you use cable (or satellite), or do you have an antenna  (If you have anantenna and a DTV you need a converter box)


  2. The most accurate way is to look in the owner's manual or google the model number.  What you are looking for is if the set has an "ATSC tuner".

    If you have a digital set, you may also be receiving digital signals now.  They will have a channel number with a dot or a dash in them like 60.1 or 4-2 .
