How do I know if formula has too much iron?

Recently had to switch formula from Enfamil Lipil to Good Start. She gets constipated on both types. It has been suggested that I change to Soy, but is that really the answer? Her bm's are like Playdough and smell awful, too much iron?

  1. it may just be that she needs to adjust to the switch, but if it has been more than a week, i would call the doctor and ask for suggestions.  soy may not be the best answer.  it made my daughter constipated, so we switched her to enfamil gentlease, which has reduced lactose and the proteins in it are partially broken down for her.  your doctor will be the best person to tell you though.  if you dont want to switch formula, ASK the doctor if she can take karo syrup for constipation.  my doctor told me to give it before we switched formula, but lots of doctors disagree.

  2. Any of those formula's are rot-gut to babies.  Breast-feeding is far and away The Best answer....if for some reason you cannot do that go w/the soy.  Yes, that stench from her deification tells you something!  Mary

  3. They do have enfamil that comes in Low Iron.  You should ask your doctor first if it is the iron or something else. Then go from there

  4. u might have too.... but soy really should be last, because startin them on this could possibly make them sensitive to other foods later in life. how old is your baby? have you talked to her doctor about this? im sure he would know better than any of us!
