How do I know if he was in jail?

My sister ex is an alcoholic and a pain in the butt, he calls his daugther, (my nice) everyday but just recently he dissapear, his father whom hardly ever calls call my sis and told her that her ex was on a taining and that he will call her daugther in a few daya, we believe he was in jail, which we hope so as my sis is pursuing full custody of her child

How can we know if this piece of was in jail?

how long has he left for? because i think if he's gone for long enough she should be able to get custody because he abandoned the kid

all you have to do is call the jail and ask.

Could go to local court house and ask how they could tell if a person was in jail.  Might check with the jail itself in the city to see if he was an inmate there.  She could ask her attorney how she would find out or just call the mail and ask if there was a way to find out if someone spent time in jail and get the time frame and the name.  They may be able to tell her or to tell her where to go to find out.

You know I really hate meddling people.

When I got out on my own, A: people I don't like I am not going to the trouble to tell them my comings and goings.

None of my relatives were listed among people I liked , there for it wasn't any of their business what I did or where I went or how long I stayed.

The result of myself enjoying fishing and camping during my three days off I had each week resulted in my family circulating lots of ugly stories about me being in jail.

This was because when they decided they need someone meaning me to fix something around their house they had broken or worn out and do all these good little all day fixer uppers for free at my expense.

Then I had to be in jail and a really bad individual because I'd leave town or not answer my phone to be bothered with their problems

It all depends if he is in a county jail or IDOC aka the big house. If you think He's at the Cook County you can call Div 5 lobby to check if he's in lock up there.
