  1. Pls make sure you get your MD to do all of the following tests (some doctors are lazy):  TSH; thyroid antibodies; Free T4; Free T3; Calculated T4; Calculated T3.

Hypothyroidism:  Low thyroid symptoms appear slowly over time:

    Fatigue

    Loss of hair

    Lower than normal temperature

    Brittle dry nails,

Slowed metabolism with unexplained weight gain

    Dry skin

    Sluggishness

    Stiffness, joint pain

    Muscle aches & pain

    Increased sensitivity to cold

    Heavier than normal periods

    Depression

    Hyperthyroidism:High thyroid

Sudden weight loss without change in eating pattern or even increased appetite

    Rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat

    Muscle weakness

    Irritability, anxiety, nervousness

    Sweating

    Increased sensitivity to heat

    Fatigue

    Insomnia

    More frequent bowel movement

    Changes in menstruation

Swelling on neck (goiter)enlarged thyroid gland

Signs often go unnoticed & undiagnosed, so if you think you have thyroid problem get tested.

It can be treated with medications.

    Google:  mayo clinic>>diseases>>hypothyroidism

    >>hyperthyroidism

    Good luck

  2. Hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone)

    Fatigue

    Weight Gain

    Dry Skin/Hair

    Feeling cold

    High blood pressure

    Puffy face

    Heavy menstrual cycles

    Hyperthyroidism (high thyroid hormone)

    Weight loss

    Hunger

    Anxiety/Restlessness

    Trembling Hands

    Protruding eyeballs

    Racing heart

The only way to be sure is to have a blood test for TSH, T4, and T3 (all main thyroid hormones).

  3. Depends on whether you're hyperthyroid (too much) or hypothyroid (too little).  Thyroid issues are more common in women than men, but detecting them is a matter of a simple blood test.  They'll test to make sure the thyroid levels are within a normal range.

  4. there are a lot of signs for low and high thyroid. Dry eyes and skin and being tried are the first ones i notice.
