How do I know if my Dell laptop is charging? (Dell Inspiron 1501)?

See I got this laptop about a year and a half ago and I never knew if it was charging when I pluged it in but when I turned it on the battery was fully charged. But the battery will not get fully charged and it's really annoying. So howdo I chrage it to make the battery full properly, and how do I know if it's even charging. Also it's a Dell Inspiron 1501.

I can't be positive seeing as I do not own that model dell. However, there might be an icon down at the lower right, next to the time, that shows a battery + plug icon. If it shows a plug there that would indicate that the battery is being charged. I'm not sure if your model has the same icons as mine so I cannot be sure but it's worth a try.
