  1. The HD channel are like 19-1, 16-1, 11-1, etc. If your TV does not have a - button then it won't pick the HD channels without help. If it is a digital TV (HD) it should say it on your TV. If you are on satellite you are already 100% digital. If you use cable TV you need to contact them to see if they are going to convert to digital. Cable sends a analog signal right now. If you have a antenna you will need to have a digital converter box, check the second link for government coupon. Good luck.

  2. Every TV can be converted to view HD signals with a converter box. I use the Zenith model and I get 12 channels in a super-rural area where I should be glad to get 1 or 2 channels with regular bunny ears.  Also, I have the type of bunny ears that are powered, and so they work as an antenna for the converter box.

However, you will not be viewing full high definition on a TV that cannot show such a high definition signal.  TVs, I think are 640x480 maximum resolution, so you'll only see that much or less resolution.  If you care about such a detail, then you need a new TV and you'll have to worry about "Downsampling" and all that jazz.  If you just want to watch at the best res your TV can show, then no worries.

Get a converter box  (and maybe an antenna) now and see what it looks like, then decide if you need more clarity.

  3. If it is a regular tv not a flat panel, it will never accept HD even with the switch to digital.
