How do I know if my air conditioner is "over charged"? ?

Are there any signs that there is too much Freon in a car's air conditioner? For example, if its "over charged" will the air still blow cold? Will it makes any sounds, etc? A mechanic told me the airconditioner is overcharged but Im having my doubts. In the 3 years Ive had the car, I've never done anything with the freon nor have I had any problems with the AC. If it is overcharged, what needs to be done to get the levels down? Does it have to be done by a mechanic? If so, how much should it cost? (Its a honda civic)

Thanks!

  1. Find another mechanic! In order for him to tell you that, he would of had to hook the gauges up to it. If it was overcharged he could/should of lowered the pressure to the correct reading. If it has been performing correctly for 3 years and you never added any freon, don't worry about it.

If it was overcharged it wouldn't cool as well or the high pressure switch would shut it down to prevent damages.

Go to another mechanic and tell him this story, He would most likely check the pressures for free after he stops laughing!
