  1. Reflux is more forceful and larger volume.  It tends to happen a little while after feeding, where as spitting up tends to happen with the post feeding burping.  A reflux babe will also tend to cry with the spitting up, where as a normal spit up doesn't hurt because it hasn't made it to the tummy yet (so it's not getting acidic, nor going through the stomach valve the wrong way).  Reflux babes might have slower weight gain, and seem to want to nurse a lot, because drinking is soothing---even though they will spit it up again.  And,  it happens after just about every feed, where as spitting up is random.

If your baby is happy, gaining weight, and still has the evidence of having GERD, most doctors won't do anything.  If your baby is unhappy, not gaining weight, there are many things you can do before seeing a doctor.

  2. All babies spit up daily. If your little one had acid reflux you would know it.  How? She would be absolutely miserable!  My niece had it and she was in terrible pain around the clock until it was finally concluded that's what she had.  As long as your child isn't in pain, I would think it's normal spit up. Also, be on the look out for projectile vomit or her throwing up most of her bottle....this could mean lactose intolerance if you're not nursing.

  3. I'm assuming you're trying to ask if she might have acid reflux.  All babies have some level of reflux, of food coming back up from their stomach, at least occasionally in small amounts.  Some more than others.  If she's not distressed, then there's no need to be concerned about it.

  4. Does she cry when she spits up?  My daughter had acid reflux, and she would cry alot after feedings because it burning.  She also had trouble sleeping.  She threw up a few times a day as well,  and I mean throw up, not spit up!  If she seems to be in pain alot, I would see if reflux is the problem.
