I've been shopping around for camcorders, and I see that most of them have FireWire or something. How can I find out if my computer has a port for this or not? It's a Dell Dimension 2400.

  1. Dell Dimension 2400's don't have FireWire connectors on them. However, you can buy a PCI FireWire card that will plug into your computer and give you FireWire support.

  2. Don't despair.

See if the cameras you are interested in can download to your computer via your USB 2 port.

It nearly as fast as firewire.

For simple downloading, you will not notice the difference.

  3. A firewire port looks like this

If your computer does not have this port, then your computer does not have firewire.

I looked up your computer, it doesn't have a firewire port.

You can install Firewire into your computer through the PCI slots with products such as this:
