How do I know if there are secret passaways in my house?

My friend and I were talking and we decided to look in her basement for secret passageways. We found a hole able to fit a person, and there was another (diiferent size) outside the house. Is it a passagway?

If it's an old house it may be a coal/ice scuttle, or chute.  I doubt it would be a secret passageway!

Probably not. If a passageway was secret, you wouldn't be able to find it!

Depending upon the age of the house, this could be a leftover chute for coal or ice or just about anything that had to get from outside to inside easily.

Then again, it could just be a hole that's in need of repair.
