Question:

How do I know if this is a chipped tooth and if it's serious?

On the inside face of my tooth it feels like theres a sharp protrusion coming out. I dunno how to describe it, it's not like a crack. It's like a nail was pushed into the side of the tooth and slid down pushing a clump of the tooth's surface into a sharp pile below...if that makes any sense.

The sharp piece seems to be getting larger and I wasn't sure what this was, how it happened or whether or not it's serious. I don't recall chipping it on something sharp or hard.

I have a dentist appointment a few weeks and I'll probably check with him before anyways, but I was curious if there was any need for alarm. It's big enough that my tongue hits it when I eat but not so sharp that it cuts my tongue.

Thanks.

  1. Sounds like a piece of that tooth- is split. And will probably Break Off before you make it to the Dentist. Depending on how BIG a piece that Split part IS- will determine how "serious" the Situation is. If the Tooth isn't hurting, then the WORST thing you might need- is a "Cap" put on that tooth. Otherwise, your Dentist might just need to put a Filling on it, & that'll be all.... Otherwise; good luck at the Dentist (& bring LOTS of $$$ !).  :)
