How do I know my dog is out of heat?

I have a little female Papillon. She had puppies 4 months ago, when she was done nursing, she went back into heat. I am keeping her separated from the male. I am sure it's been 3 weeks, and would like to be able to have them in the same room again, but the male still wants to hump everything that moves. How do I know when it's safe to put them together again?

  1. If she is out of heat she won't let him hump her. You have to watch her female parts. When a female comes in heat she (female parts) swells up great big, when the swelling is gone she is out of heat. She will only let a male near her during her 2nd week of heat. She will snap at him and keep him away from her if she is not in any longer. My husband raised hunting dogs, I learned a lot from him.

  2. When the male doesn't hump everything that moves.

  3. Dogs go into heat every 6 months, so her heat was too early.  You should have her spayed, as this could be a bad sign of premature aging/cancer.

My step daughter has a dachshund who went into season twice before 8 weeks of age.  The vet spayed her right away.

  4. females usually come back into season when their puppies are 4 mos old.  When her v***a has completely  gone down to normal size, she will be out of season.

  5. wow she came into heat that quick  im so glad my female dog  only comes into heat every  year and  a half

  6. I'd wait another week to be safe.

Crazy Horse- You don't have a clue an 8 week old puppy, is way to young to go into heat.  Dogs come in heat every 5 to 6 months from the first cycle.
