How do I know the Pink Eye is gone?

I don't need to know how to take care of it. I know all of that and have been doing everything cautiously for a week and two days.

I have never had pink eye before so I just need to know how to be absolutely positive that it's gone.

My eye isn't pink anymore, it doesn't itch (although it never really did). I have been using the drops for a week and two days (two drops four times a day). How do you know when its okay to wear the contacts and eye make-up again?

  1. Hey,

Like most other viruses, including the common cold, there is no way to get rid of viral pink eye. You have to let the virus run its course. Nevertheless, you should see a physician no matter what kind of conjunctivitis you think you have, because there is an corneal infection associated with the viral pink eye. Often times a doctor will prescribe you an antibiotic when you get pink eye, just to be on the safe side and to avoid the possibility of a secondary infection brought on by your weakened immune system. With severe cases of viral pink eye, a steroid cream is prescribed to help reduce inflammation.

Getting rid of bacterial pink eye is easiest with an antibiotic, making it one of the easier pink eyes to get rid of. Part of the reason doctor’s prescribe an antibiotic for viral pink eye is because they’d rather save you the money of having to get lab work done, and instead either assume it’s bacterial pink eye or viral pink eye. One can’t be cured but the secondary infection can, while the other can be cured using the same drugs that would cure a secondary infection from the first. Do the math and get yourself to the doctor and have them fill out a prescription for a mild antibiotic.

  2. consult your optomotrist or local doctor cause if there's no visible signs only the people who know exactly what to look for will know

  3. Did you get a prescription? Use up the prescription. If your eyes are bloodshot or swollen or painful or itchy for a couple of days then you can consider your pinkeye cured.
