How do I know what root is root note..how to play scales on guitar?

I am trying to teach myself more about the theory of guitar and different ways to play besides the few chords I can strum...I have gotten the hang of tab...but I cant seem to grasp how to play scales...how to make chords from different scales and where is the root note in the key...There is probably something more simple than what I have been trying to read on..because it is not making sense to me...Can anyone explain it better than the websites I have been using...or direct me to a very simple one...I do not know much about music theory ...But really want to learn and expand to be able to play more lead type guitar rather than just strum...but I dont understand it at all..HELP....Thanks

I agree with Garrison... Get a teacher. I self-taught myself for about 3 years on the electric and was on Grade 7/8 (Rock School). I ended up getting bored of electric guitar (not saying you will) and took up Classical Guitar about 2/3 years ago and got a guitar teacher who was solely trained in the classical style. To keep things short I'm now starting a Degree in Classical Music at the RSAMD in Glasgow, which is probably one of, if not, the best Music Institution in Scotland :P

FIRST... HIRE A TEACHER

SECOND:  Learn how to read music.

You don't have a basic knowledge of music theory and the best way to get that knowledge is by HIRING A TEACHER, especially since it looks like you can't understand the instructions on the web sites... you need someone to SHOW you what it's all about and that means you have to HIRE A TEACHER.

If you every hope to be able to play lead guitar, you need a knowledge of music theory or you will always be trying to learn from TABS and some video on youtube, and you will never be very good at playing the guitar until or unless you get some PERSONAL HELP from a TEACHER.
