  1. Congratulations!

I've always taken a heavy string, knotted it at one end, and run it through my horse's mouth with the knot at one side. I hold the string at the other side and then ease the string out of the horse's mouth and knot the string where I'm holding it.

I can then take the string to my tack room or shop and get the right-sized bit right away.

  2. When you put the bit in if it fits it will make one or two wrinkles on the side of the horses mouth. If you just can't seem to get a bit that fits then I would ask someone who is very experienced in horses to look at you horse and tell you what size bit you need. Good luck with you new horse!

  3. http://www.statelinetack.com/videos.asp

There's a video about it under the 'Tack' section (right under the thing that says video gallery). I think it's called 'Measuring for a bit'

  4. the of her mouth in inches.  Use a piece of string right were the bit goes to measure.  If she is between size go to the next size up.

  5. Congrats on getting a new horse ! =)

That link tells you everything :)
