I don't think I should do the mile it takes me 10:45 just to do a mile and I am basically walking and running. I am unsure about jumping. I plan on running track. Any tips? I can't run cross country they started practice in July and they have already started the meets. I am going to be new to this school this year where I live they have built 2 new highschools and most of the people have split up.

  1. You cn always join XC, you just wont be varsity.

I's say try all the events...maybe the Shot is your event

  2. What you should do is try them all.  At the end you'll be able to make a better assessment and know what fits you perfectly.  The mile is obviously out of it.

  3. try all of them and the one you like best do that... i mean if your not good at it you could always get better too! :] hope i helped

  4. Yeah, no offence, but that's pretty slow for a mile. You should probably try some short distance running. 400m is my personal favourite.

  5. hi

  6. try something like long jump, triple jump, or discuss.  They are not timed the just measure how far you can jump or throw and with training you'll get better

  7. Try them. See what you're good at.

  8. It took me some time to find my niche. I started out doing sprinting because that is what all of my friends did. I was ok in junior high, but got smoked in high school. I began to try other things and found that middle distance was best for me. I focused on the 300m IM hurdles and they turned out to be the best event for me and my team. So it is really a sort of trial and error thing. I didn't even join cross country until I was a senior in high school, which is when I found out I was great at the 5k. So really you should take your time, look at all the events and find what works best for you. Once you find something you like, stick to it and work hard at it. You have plenty of time. Check to see if the school has an indoor track team, which will start around October. In the mean time, if you think running is your thing, try to stay in shape by running a few miles 3 times a week. That way, you are already in decent shape at the beginning of the season and you can excel as the season progresses.
