How do I know when Butternut Squash is ready for picking?

I'm growing my first garden and I planted some butternut squash and they are getting pretty big, but they are still green, aren't they suppose to change colors?

yeah they definatly arent ready yet, when they turn yellow then they are ready to pick...

Next time if you dont want such big ones, find smaller seads. (like it says they are mini's or something ( the sead it self isnt going to be smaller)
