Question:

How do I know where my hamster likes his water bottle?

I usually have to hold it for him and he drinks right there. But when I hang it on the cage he wont drink out of it. What am i supposed to do? I have hung it on every way possible but he wont drink. He is a year old too!!!

  1. I would take him to the vet because they can can give you the best advice and check him over to make sure there isn't a physical reason why he cant do that.


  2. Wherever you hang the bottle, touch the tip with your finger to make sure it is working and that water comes out.  If the bottle is at an improper angle a vacuum can form and he can't get the water to come out.

    When Mr. Ham is thirsty, he will drink the water.  Maybe when you're not looking.  Keep an eye on the water level in the bottle.

    You can also put a small bit of apple in his cage, there is a lot of water in an apple to satisfy his thirst.  I use this when I am moving hamsters or any veggie pet and don't want the water to spill.

    Do keep a fresh supply of water in his cage, bottle or dish, but don't worry, he'll drink when he's thirsty.
