How do I know whether to set my dvd player to YUV P-scan or YUV interlace?

  1. Depends on the setting for your tv.  

    1080i or 780i use YUV interlaced

    1080p or 780p use YUV P-scan

    If you can use 1080p


  2. Set it to P scan.  It will give you a better picture if its set to interlaced it will only display lines 1 3 5 ect then go to lines 2 4 6... setting it to p scan or Progressive it will display all the lines at once.

  3. This is really a 480 question since it's DVD we're talking about. 1080 and 720 aren't part of the picture. (sorry 'bout the pun)

    Use P, short for progressive scan. That way you see your whole picture, delivered as still images 60 times each second, instead of half of it delivered 30 times, then the other half delivered 30 times.

    I is short for interlaced. Your TV will draw line 1 then line 3, then line 5 etc. until it's reached the last line then it goes back and draws the even lines. At any given moment in time you are only seeing half your picture with an interlaced signal.
