  2. power chords are more easy don't need to memorise anithing

  3. Don't try to learn them all at once.   Learn the ones near the nut first.  You'll soon find there one or two you can't do simply (B major or B minor or C minor for example) so, at that point, you can start learning the techniques that will take you on to the other chord shapes - using a barré (your forefinger held across some or all of the strings) and a chord shape held just above it.  You are really just using your finger as a movable cappo.

It takes a while to develop the strength in your grip so 'barrés are something you would want to build up to anyway.

Learn which major chords 'live together as a family' in a given key and then which minor chords are also part of the same 'family'.  Then bring in the 7ths that round off the major and minor groups within the key.  Before you know it, you have developed a repertoire and can often 'hear' which chord to play without referring to sheet music or tabs.

If you want to play rock guitar, then you will want to master the  barré quite soon as it is commonly used with just a couple of chord shapes that are moved up and down the neck.  My advice for rock is to concentrate on the chord shapes for E, Em, A and Am and practice using these in different positions with a major barré (forefinger across all the strings).

Something else to remember is that playing chords is only one way of playing a guitar. There are others so you might want to think about where you are going with your music before you get tied-in to a particular technique.  It is hard to un-learn habits you pick up early on.

Have fun.  I hope it brings you as much pleasure as it has me over the past 40 years.

  4. Try to learn most of the major combinations on the first 5 frets.

  5. If you look at the chords they may have a number on the side of them and thats what fret you start at.

I hope that answers your question

  6. Learn barre chords, you can play them at any fret. http://www.cleverjoe.com/articles/guitar...

  7. I would suggest getting something like the Guitar Chord Deck / also known as the Chordex. It looks like a deck of cards shaped in the form of a guitar neck but is actually a compilation of all of the most common chords and shows you exactly how to finger them. You can find it online or at most music stores.
