I might be going to high school in the fall. I've been homeschooled for the last 8 years, my mom just told me I have to learn all of this stuff before the fall if I want to go to high school.

I should have started learning this stuff years ago not the semster before I'm stuposted to go to high school. She's also saying we might have to do school in the summer.

Any way, what I'm asking is what is the best way to learn this fast, well, and so I don't end up looking stupid in front of teachers?

  1. Who was schooling you at home? Study hard. When you go to highschool ensure your teachers know what level you are at and stay for extra help. Get an outside tutor also.

You will be ok, just work HARD and you will catch up!!

  2. Honestly if you've been following the correct Home-schooling programs you have no problems.  Public school is so much easier than Home school

Case and Point:  One of my friends insisted way back when that her work was more difficult that mine.  So when she had to do the "hardest test of the year" she asked her teacher if I could participate (unofficially) to settle the matter.  The teacher being a very good natured woman said that would be fine and gave me a copy of the test.  I took it under supervision of my friend to ensure I didn't cheat.

Took my friend 2 hours to complete.  Took me 1/2 an hour.

    My friend got a B-.  I received a A+.

Believe me Public school is easier.  Just study, push yourself, eat plenty of healthy "think" food, and relax between studying so you don't over stimulate your brain!

    Good luck!

  3. Your mom is probably overestimating what you need to know. Public school really isn't that hard.

Just read some books, practice wrting, and do a few math lessons everyday. It won't hurt to do math over the summer if that is a weak area for you.

    You will do just fine.

  4. What stuff is it you've got to learn?  Most homeschooled people know way more than kids who go to school, and are better at learning fast - so it shouldn't be a problem.

  5. What kind of math and what kind of science? Are you learning addition or calculis? Biology or Chemistry? We kind of need to know those kinds of things to be able to help you.

  6. One step at at time.....

    >>>>>>>>>>>>Go see a Guidance Counselor at your school.  Ask about tutoring.  <<<<<<<<<<<<

Don't worry about "looking stupid".  School is a place to learn.

  7. What have you been doing up till now?

Who are you going to school for yourself, or to look good for the teachers?

Have you even checked out what it is that you should be studying, what they require, met with the guidance counselor?, you may be surprised what you already know.

Are you entering the 9Th grade level?, if so no need to panic, because the average home school curriculum is a year or two ahead of many conventional schools.

The first year is more about trying not to get lost in the shuffle than anything else.

If you are so concerned attend the school summer school classes to get familiar with how they go about it, and take the classes you are less strong in; a little extra practice has never hurt anyone.

Taking into consideration your additional comments, my question is why would you go to a traditional school when learning at your own pace may benefit you much more, and put less stress on you?

It's not about how fast we learn, but rather that we learn well.

There are other alternatives, like alternative high schools where you can learn at your own pace, or on-line schools that may work well for you if your mom can no longer guide, or instruct you.

    Good luck.

  8. u ll be ok

  9. What is it you need to learn?

  10. I personally think that the best way is for you to learn. Just learn! It sounds hard, but once you get a grasp of it; it will be like making chili and eating it on the front porch in the breezy, warm summertime! Think positive, don't be ashamed.

  11. You've got 7 months before school starts, right? Yes, it'll be a little disheartening at times, but if you spend 6 hours a day on your school work, 5 days a week for the next 7 months, you can do a LOT.

Another option would be to give yourself until second semester or even until next year--either start high school itself a year late or do your first year of high school when you're done all this prep stuff. You'd have to make sure, though, that the high school would recognize your work in some fashion.

I would highly recommend that you contact the high school you might be attending and find out for them what you really need to know and be able to do to enter. Your mom may think there's stuff you need to know that you might not have to cover, like history and science.
