How do I learn to be more tolerant of my fellow countrymen?

I have a serious concern in my life, perhaps you could even call it a 'personality flaw'. For starters, I have spent the whole of my adult life in both military and public service and have spent many years aborad pursuing these career objectives. Ironically, I have a very difficult time tolerating many types of the personalities of my fellow Americans. In fact, I get very angry when I percieve somebody in my country who takes their way of life for granted, has no cultural sensitivity, or is simply out to make money at the expense of others. I have a nagging, judgemental sense that many Americans are ignorant 'bums' just by the lack of care they take in their personal appearence. Sometimes I even question if the security of such types of individuals is worthy of the sacrifices I make on a daily basis. However, I realise that many of these thoughts/beliefs/sensitivites are misconceptions or unduely founded.

To put it blunty, how do I learn to be more tolerant of others?

  1. Stop being selfish and imagine what it's like to walk in somebody else's shoes. Everybody has a reason for their behavior.  Understanding and empathy are the answers.

  2. I also used to suffer from the same judgemental thinking.  Then I realized; it's a free country.  People may behave, and dress,  as they choose.  In my beliefs, I am not here to judge others but, only for myself and my own actions.  In other words; if you wish to be free of this torment, Just mind your own business.  No offense intended.

  3. If you are not naturally tolerant, this is one of the most difficult personality flaws to overcome!  I fight it daily.  The only thing you can do is stop yourself every time and ask "Is this really bad in its own right or is it just different from my viewpoint?"

    Good luck!

  4. if you come up with a good method, let me know.  I feel the same way 23.5 hours out of the day.

  5. Take up pot smoking or get a lobotomy.

It's the only way to deal with these fools who think America's

    best days are behind her.

  6. Remember the First Admentment. They have a right to their stupid *** ignorant opinions even if you don't agree with them. That's the beauty of the US. I don't have to agree with you, I merely need to let you spout, I don't even have to listen to you nor do I have to agree.

    Thanks for asking.

  7. I don't know, but it's important to know other people's opinion
