How do I learn what key to sing in?

I've never had vocal training and cant really afford it, how can i figure out what key to sing in? but if you buy sheet music, is it already in a key? then can you just use that key? answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Aside from the other comments given, sheet music will have its individual key signature for the song. Usually, the song will stay in the same key, but often it can change. Below are some common key signatures:

No sharps, no flats = C or Am

One flat = F or Dm

Two flats = Bb or Gm

Three flats = Eb or Cm

Four flats = Ab or Fm

Five flats = Db or Bbm

Six flats = Gb or Ebm

One sharp = G or Em

Two sharps = D or Bm

Three sharps = A or F#m

Four sharps = E or C#m

Five sharps - B or G#m

Six sharps = F# or D#m

You need to figure out if you have a high voice, medium voice (you can reach some highs, not all, and some lows), or a deep voice.  Then when you buy the music, talk to the clerk.  They will get you the right key.

well you sing in the key that you can reach all the notes comfortably in......alot of people can sing in D or G....start there and then go up or down a step (or 2 or 3) till u findwhats comfortable.....yes sheet music is usually only available in one key....unless u download it....then u have a few more options.....but if there r chords on th sheet music aswell then its a bit easier to transpose and once u know what key you are doing u can always transpose the sheet music.....usually in your head if its not too hard.....good luck!!!!

If the key isn't comfortable to sing then just transpose it. Make sure you get at least some vocal training from somewhere so as you don't put unnecessary strain on your vocal chords which could be disasterous and cause alot of damage
