You click on sign out at the top of the screen and don't sign on again!  No letter of resignation is required! ;-)

Click on Edit Membership in the middle of the top line of your Yahoo Group's home page (just below the ad). Then click on Leave Group in the lower-right-hand corner of the resulting page. Confirm that you want to leave the Group, and you will have left it.
