I'm going to Vancouver this July for 1 year and I'm trying to get a work permit/ visa so that I can work whilst I'm there.

I don't have a job offer so will be job-hunting when I get there. Everyone I speak to says I need to already have employment over there to get one though???

What should i do? please help!

  1. You must obtain a temporary work permit and/or apply to become a permanent resident in order to live and work legally in Canada

Check out the link below for more information

  2. Will you be a student? What country are you coming from? These things make a difference in answering this question.

It's difficult to get a work visa in Canada unless you have a company that has agreed to hire you and will sponsor you for a visa.

Look at the Canadian Immigration website for details...

  3. I think you should have a job offer but not 100% sure. I know it is illegal to look for job without a work permit while you are in Canada.

  4. First of all you will need to go to immigration and recieve a work permit, because of the fact that vancouver is one on Canada's most expensive and most highly successful citys it may be difficult to recieve one. i live in ontario so i am not quite sure if the policies are the same, but in order to work in Canada you need a Social Insurance Number. what you should do is get in contact with Immigration and ask them. also it all depends on why you are coming to Canada, if your coming as a studying student of not will make alot of difference. but contanct immigration to make sure.
