How do I let go and try to be a more calm happy person?

My husbands 17 year old brother has tried to bully our 11 year old son.

My husband told his mom that he needed to keep his hands off of our son or we would have problems.

This still bothers me because I have a hard time letting go when someone has been mean to my child.

I get all defensive and stay angry - because I get anxiety - like what if...

If nothing else happens then its great - if something else happens then I will feel justified in staying an angry person - even though it hurts me.

How do I let go and try to be a more calm happy person?

  1. You should be applauded for feeling that way. After all, he is your son, and you only wish to protect him.

But regarding your interest in becoming a calm, happy person, my two favorite books are "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (And It's All Small)" and "How To Be Happy, Damnit!"

Both books have had a profound impact on my mood and outlook on life.

    Good luck!

  2. Well you could beat the sh*T out of the 17 year old but that will do nothing but get you into alot of trouble. I would just try to move on as much as you can, if he is staying away from the family then that is good. : )

  3. I feel, although its hard you should talk openly in when all your family members are present,to ensure that nothing horrible happens in future.

Make a condition that they should not talk(your son and your brother in-law) and they should not relate to each other for any reason. You can only do a thing for your child not even your husband can.Or just send your child to boarding school.Or make your son in law study in a far away college from your town. The thing is you have to part them otherwise there is no solution.
