We are going to be having a boarding student stay in our home. We have a laptop computer for her to use that connects to our wireless network. How can I set up the computer so that it can use our internet access but cannot access our other networked computers?

  1. wow let me make a note not to hire anyone here to ever work on my equipment !!!!

Just because your boarder is using your wireless network does not mean they have access to other computers if they are not added to the workgroup or domain  password protect the router and hide your network / workgroup name . and your fine

  4. I would  build a segregated network.  I anticipate you have a cablemodem or DSL modem, and that line goes into a wireless network device of some sort. I would put a network switch (10/100) between your DSL or Cablemodem and your Wireless network. then connect your wireless network to that.  Then buy another Wireless network router (the cheapest is about $40).  Then you would have 2 networks.  One public, and the other private.
