  2. If you try to live to 100 chances are you won't do much living at all... It's not the ammount of time you have it's what you do with it...

  3. Eat lots of oily fish

sleep for at least 8 hours a night...

    etc

    etc

  4. Carefull...you might get what you wish for

  5. Step 1:

Live an active life, both mentally and physically. You don't have to be an exercise nut, but keep moving. Walking, golfing, swimming-- anything at all is good. Implement a stretching program to maintain your flexibility and lift weights to build muscle and prevent osteoporosis.

    Step 2:

Stay married. Numerous studies indicate that married people live longer than single people. There's the old joke that it just seems longer for married people, but in reality it seems to help.

    Step 3:

Maintain your ideal weight. Being overweight will definitely limit your chances of becoming a centenarian and is likely to make the journey a slow and painful one.

    Step 4:

Drink moderately and don't smoke at all.

    Step 5:

Have good genes. Extreme long life seems to run in families and may be based on common genetic and environmental factors. If you have a centenarian sibling, your chances of living past the century mark increase greatly. (Of course, you're probably pretty old already yourself.)

    Step 6:

Eliminate unnecessary stress as it shortens your life. Finding satisfying, meaningful work is likely to contribute to a long life, and certainly does to having a life you enjoy. If you're retired, do something that gives purpose and value to your life.

    Step 7:

Develop close and respectful relationships with your friends and loved ones. This may actually be harder than living for 100 years, but it's a big help if you can manage it.

    Step 8:

Live simply. Huck Finn probably lived to 100 because he understood that today is what counts, fine clothes are itchy, and money is a burden.

  6. Very healthy diets include the Mediterranean diet, the Pritikin diet, the Okinawan diet and a vegetarian diet.

Plenty of antioxidants help to slow down the aging process and you find them in foods that are colored a bright yellow, orange, red, blue or purple.  Such foods include pumpkin, carrots, citrus fruit, melons, tomatoes, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, beetroot, red cabbage, purple and blue grapes and others.

  7. There are two things you must do:

    1. Exercise.

    2. Don't eat much.

I'm not kidding. Both of these. are the best things--besides the obvious, over-stated suggestions like "eat a balanced diet, get plenty of sleep, and drink enough water"--that you can do to live a long and healthy life.

The exercise I think we know: an hour a day (we've heard about 30 minutes but recent studies have suggested that that really isn't quite enough) of vigorous exercise. That means jogging 6 to 7 miles a day or the equivalent. Go slow and easy while working up to this. Take a few months to get to this point if you've not run regularly before, and above all get good, really good, running shoes, in the $100 US range.

I think the "don't eat much" part will be a surprise to most people. Cutting about 30-40% of your usual calories per day will turn on your SIRT2 gene which repairs DNA damage, and turns off your DAF gene which lowers your insulin levels, and when this happens, every creature that this happens to has lived up to 50% longer.

Not that people will live that much longer, but it's a lead-pipe cinch that we will live to 100 or more if we do both of these starting at a young age.

The question is, of course, will we? We don't like to feel low-level hunger most of the time, which is what this regimen will do to us. But if you really, really want to live to 100 or more, then this is what you will have to do.

There are a few other things, of course, but red wine really isn't among them. the resveratrol in it isn't very strong, and to get a significant lengthening in lifespan in the lab mice, they had to ingest the equivalent of 1000 glasses of wine a day. While that may sound fun...

Take 50-100mg of nicotinic acid each day. This is the form of vitamin B3 that raises HDL (the 'good' cholesterol) which removes the harmful cholesterol from your arteries. Don't take either of the other two forms of it--hexanicotinol or niacinamide (the kind in most multivitamins)--because they won't work. And don't take the "timed release" form of nicotinic acid, either. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that it doesn't raise HDL levels. If it says that it won't cause "niacin flush," it won't work.

Get married and help other people. There is nothing that makes us happier than thinking about and helping others, and the best way to do that is to marry someone and spend your life helping that person. Assuming that you've been careful in your choice and you haven't married a selfish creep, you'll be very happy, and this has been shown to be part of a long, healthy and happy life.

Pray every day. Dean Ornish found that his program of heart-disease reversal worked best when his patients did this.

    Good luck.

  8. Most folks that live to be centurions in this world, all have one thing in common.

They have higher than normal good cholesterol levels in their body and are able to maintain them.

I am sure that today we have some way of treating a person to raise and maintain good cholesterol levels.  Family heritage plays a large part.

The environment that you live and work in, Sun exposure, and stress levels and over all what life in general brings to you , good or bad.

Eat a decent healthy diet, avoid the fast food  industry as much as you can. Get a exersize regement going to keep you fit, and your heart strong.

Be happy live  laugh and love, for every day above ground, is a good day.

See ya in 50 years or so ok...
