  1. Hi8 is an analog format - that's why the camera does not have a USB or DV (firewire) port on it.

    You have three choices:

    1) Get a "direct to DVD" deck. Typically, this is a VHS tape deck with AV-in that allows you to connect the camera to the deck and there is also a DVD recorder bay that lets you copy the contents of the camcorder hi8 tape to the DVD...

    Then, if your computer has a DVD drive, you can rip the DVD using something like

    2) Get an analog/digital bridge

    If your computer only has USB:
