Question:

How do I log volunteer hours?

I know that volunteer hours are crucial part of college applicants. I started logging the organization, activity, date, and amount of hours for each job. Is this enough to make it official? Is there a specific way I'm supposed to be logging my hours that I'm not following?

  1. Consider writing yourself a mini resume, that your volunteer boss can substantiate for you.  It's something like this:  prepare a short memo or letter that you would like a prospective employer or school to see about your accomplishments, including how many hours, dates, etc. You would write it as if you're almost writing it for the employer to simply change a few pronouns, elaborate a few points, etc.  No one knows or cares about your accomplishments more than you, so it i perfectly appropriate for you to manage yourself to ensure any letter form your volunteer employer emphasizes your (true) accomplishments with specific detail that *does* get noticed. BTW, keep logging your hours, and even mileage to and from your volunteer job!
