I need to know about a daycare that i am looking to send my kids. My neighbor started there yesterday and they said they had several write-ups and I don't know where to find them. Where should I look?

  1. It depends on the state you come from. For example I own a Child Care Center in NJ. If a parent wants to look up my record they need to contact the agency where I get my license from which is DYFS (Division of Youth and family Services). Any complaints or write ups would then be available to you. You will also be able to find out if the complaints were founded or dismissed. Hope this helps. By the way the center should be able to give you the name and number of their licensing agency. If they are not willing to do so... turn around and find another center.

  2. Google is your best friend! It is amazing how much information, including reports about childcare centres, is actually out there on the world wide web.

Another source is your local Children's and Family Services, as well as the Ombudsman.

Probably your best bet though is to talk to the other long term parents of the centre, they are sure to give you information about how the centre runs from a parent's point of view, not the marketing perspective of the centre.

  3. find where they are licenced - they should have their license visible to you when you are in their house -  there is a phone number on there - take note of it - and call the place, and ask if they have anything that is written up for them.
