Hi all, I broke my ankle 5 weeks back and have been on a cam walker (ankle brace). I was training for a half marathon prior to getting my ankle injury, but have not been as active due to my ankle.I am 5 feet 3 inches and am 130 pounds (put on 4 to 5 pounds:(

I would like to lose weight and tone up within the next 2 months. I would like to get to 118 and tone up very well.

But the doctor has asked me not to do put any weight on my ankles for 4 to 6 weeks- so no running for me or fast walking, too many lunges, or pushing anything with my ankle for weights..

Please advise on what I can do to achieve my goal, inspite of my ankle. Any help you can provide will be super helpful. Thanks.

  1. meal replacement drinks as many as you can handle. limit your caloric intake to less than 3000 per day. drink lots of water, up to a gallon a day. do lots of sit ups, crunches, leg lifts and get some free weights that you can work your upper body with. you could feasibly do all i recommended  laying down so you wont stress your ankle.-blurey

  2. You could work on your arms, or do sit-ups.

You can also get weights to wrap around an ankle and you could lift it lying on your back. There are many possiblilties, it depends on what you want to work on.

  3. I walk a lot on my crutches.  In cold weather I walked the mall, and when it is nice - the neighborhood.  Some people think that I'm crazy, but it is good exercise.  Take a look at the chart in the link about burning calories.  Good luck.

  4. First things first, how much you way means NOTHING, Unless you are obese or something. The only thing important is that you are healthy and feel good about yourself :]

I am about the same height and weight as you, and to loose weight and tone up I do crunches and sit ups.

If you can at least stand on your feet, I suggest doing some ab work outs buy Billy Banks, it really helps tone your stomach, which is what most girls are looking to do. It really helps:)

Also get little 5 pound weights and do circular motions with  your hands, maybe some punches. You can do this sitting down even. It really tones your arms out :)

Anyways good luck with loosing weight, and I hope your ankle heels well :]

  5. Swimming is an excellent non weight bearing aerobic exercise.  Just make sure that the doc is ok with swimming.  Swimming also uses up a lot of calories.  Eat sensibly and swim.
