Question:

How do I lower my spin off the driver?

I hit my driver pretty well but I did the bridgestone ball fitting challenge and my backspin rate was way too high. Would hitting the ball more on the up swing instead of a descending blow help?

  1. Yes. Hit the driver on the up swing and make sure the ball doesnt impact the center of the clubface but rather a bit higher on the face. This is usually accomplished by teeing it up higher. A good rule for teeing a ball up is half the ball above the crown of the driver. This will increase your launch angle but reduce the spin which equals major distance.

  2. Yes that is actually the key way to do it.  Maybe finding a driver with a lower CG would help to.  This reduces the spin.  But mainly just try to put it in front tee it up higher and try to get it on the way up.  With your whole body behind the ball it should add distance to your drives also.

  3. You answered your own question. Hitting the ball on the upswing will give the ball a different spin with forward action  rather than reverse action. So play the ball more off the lead toe rather than the middle of the stance.

  4. Ive been wondering this myself and have looked into it and did some research. Long drive champions use drivers that have low loft and long shafts. The play anywhere from 5-7 deg loft and 1 3 inches longer than standard. With applied technique

and decent clubhead speed the low loft and high launch will produce less spin and longer shots. Remember that these clubs are true drivers and i consider most drivers today 3 woods even though my clubhead speed is only 108 mph.

Get lower loft stiff shaft and experiment. Some drivers have to low cg go with cobra or titleist maybe. You may even have to order custom completely in order to get it right!

  5. i go with what everybody said except the chapstick guy.

  6. Apply Chapstick To The Face Of The Club.

  7. put the ball an inch or two further back in your stance
