Ok I just got a 10 gallon fishtank. I would like some tips and suggestions on what fish I should get, and on how to keep my fish healthy and to keep my tank clean. I've got a Rainbow Shark and a Pictus Cat so far. I might be getting a 30 gallon tank soon.

  1. Upgrade to a 30 gallon tank. If posible, upgrade to a bigger tank. Base your tank size on the size of the fishes you want. Bigger tanks are better for beginners as they are easier to maintain.

    Daily:

Check the nitrite, nitrate, ammonia levels, temperature and the health of the fishes. Also check if all equipments are working smoothly

    Weekly:

25 percent water changes needs to be done. Remove any debris from the substrate and dead plants.

    Monthly:

Clean filters and service any other equipment.

  2. I think you should get one more fish, and then be done. (you should upgrade to a 30gallon too) You should get some plants, etc (decor) But not too much, the fish would like some room. Also, you should get a small, quiet filter with cartridges and clean it out once you notice some grossness.
