I have a 5 month old kitty and I just got a 7wk old, my old kitty appears to be jealous and is acting like i betrayed her. She hisses at me even if i don't have the new kitty smell on me...she was so upset last night that she threw up, she has never thrown up before. She's the bigger cat, and its her house essentially but for some reason she is scared of the new little one and is really skittish. I am keeping them in separate rooms for now but I don't know how to integrate them with out the big one trying to eat the little one or something terrible. Please help!

  1. As the previous person said, it's normal.  Hopefully the older cat begins to accept her in about a week.

However, there are some cats that are very antisocial and never get used to another cat.

  2. Keep them seperated until the little one is big enough to defend herself...then the two of them will spit, and hiss, and slap at each other until the older one establishes dominance, and then everyone will take a nap on the top of the fridge...

  3. One trick I've used is to feed them side-by-side.  That way they learn to associate the presence of the other cat with another good thing, food.  It works even best if it is a "treat" food, like tuna for example.

This worked well with younger cats, but I once had a much older cat that I could never reconcile with a younger cat we adopted.

Lots of books on this subject at the book store too.

    Good luck!

  4. put them in the same room under watchful eye

  5. this is normal.

keep them separated for a few weeks, then introduce with supervision. they should get along.

  6. mabye your 5 month old cat is pregnant and has morning sickness...( because she threw up )

cats can get pregnant as young as 4 months , so if he isnt fixed and has ever gone outside at all she might be pregnant

  7. I would not separate them

  8. We introduced a tiny female kitten to an already-very-grumpy 4-year-old male and our older (HUGE!) male ran away in fear! We kept the kitten shut in the bathroom (with litter box and food) for the first few nights so nothing bad would happen while we were asleep, and supervised their interactions during the day. We also have the feeding side by side, and there are 2 litter boxes (since our male is so picky about sharing). They aren't absolute best friends, but they get along just fine now, 2 years later : )

  9. get them drunk
