  2. Tuna pasta bake recipe

    Ingredients

1 can (185g) Tuna (reserve brine) 2 tablespoons Sugar

1 can (400g) Tomatoes chopped 1 tablespoon Malt Vinigar reduction

1 small Onion chopped 1 tablespoon Oregano

200g Mozzarella sliced 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

    200g Farfalle  4 tablespoons Mayonnaise*

1 tablespoon Parsley chopped 2 tablespoons Pesto (optional)

3 Garlic cloves crushed 1/2 tablespoon Tomato Pure

Salt to season 50g Parmesan grated

    Black pepper to taste

    Instructions for Tuna Pasta Bake

Turn on your oven and preheat to 200c

Start by making the tomato sauce.

In a heavy bottomed saucepan add the olive oil and bring to a low heat. Add the chopped onion and cook gently until softened and without colour (about 10 minutes). Add the crushed garlic and oregano and continue to cook for a further minute keeping the heat low. Next add the malt vinegar and reduce until almost completely evaporated.

Add the tuna brine, turn up the heat and reduce until almost completely evaporated. There should be almost no liquid left at this stage, but the contents of the pan should be moist. Turn the gas down again to a low heat.

In goes the tomato pure, mixing in briskly with a wooden spoon. Cook the tomatoe pure until you see the oil begin to separate. Back up with the heat.

Add the can of tomatoes and simmer on a medium heat, slightly reducing to the consistency of ketchup. Season with salt, black pepper and sugar. (Taste for seasoning and adjust if necessary)

Meanwhile cook the pasta until slightly underdone. Warm through a shallow oven proof dish in the preheated oven.

Drain the pasta and return to the pan. Gently combine the tuna, mayonnaise, pesto and parmesan.

Transfer the pasta and tuna mix to the warmed shallow oven proof dish and pour over the tomato sauce.

Top with the sliced Mozzarella and sprinkle with the chopped parsley. Reserve a little parsley for garnishing before serving.

Bake for about 25 minutes until the Mozzarella has melted and golden in colour.

Sprinkle with the reserved parsley and serve with a crisp green salad, crusty bread and a glass of your favourite wine or beer.

  3. Tuna Casserole

1 (8 ounce) package wide egg noodles

    2 tablespoons butter

    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon salt (optional)

    1 cup milk

1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

1 (6 ounce) can tuna, drained

1 (15 ounce) can peas, drained (or corn)

    DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Coat a 2 quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

In a large pot of salted water, boil noodles until al dente. Drain well.

In a medium saucepan, combine flour, butter, and salt. Stir until butter is melted and ingredients are combined evenly. Add milk, and whisk until the sauce thickens (usually it is at the proper consistency by the time it begins to boil). Add cheese to mixture, and whisk until cheese is melted and mixture is well blended. Stir in tuna, peas, and noodles. Spread evenly in prepared dish.

Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes.

note:  If you don't want to make the sauce from scratch, use a can of cream of mushroom and add some milk and or some sour cream instead.

sometimes, if I am in a real hurry, I just make a box of mac and cheese and throw in some froz peas and a can of drained tuna.  top with cracker crumbs.  Yum.

  4. Stop being lazy, you could've easily found the answer to this in a book, search engine or even teletext.   Jeez and it's not even hard to make anyway, i've been making it since I was 12.

  10. Tuna Pasta Bake

This is a really nice, simple dish that the whole family can enjoy!

    dried pasta

    1 onion, chopped

    1 clove of garlic, crushed

    1 tin tuna

    1 tin chopped tomatoes

    mixed dried herbs or oregano

    grated cheese

Put the pasta on to cook for about 10 minutes (allow 75g-115g/3oz-4oz dried pasta per adult, and about half this per child). Drain the pasta once cooked.

Use tuna in oil if you have some. Pour a bit of the oil from the tuna into a pan and fry some onion and garlic (if you have it). Pour away the rest of the oil. Add the tuna to the pan, and heat through and mix up for a minute.

Add a tin of chopped tomatoes and some mixed herbs or oregano, and a little black pepper. Cook for 5-10 minutes.

    Add to cooked pasta.

To make it into a 'bake' pile it all into an oven dish, and top with cheese.

    Bake for 20-30 minutes at 180 C/Gas 4.

    Variations

To make it more interesting, you can add a small amount of red wine to the sauce (the alcohol boils away), you can also add a tablespoon of half-fat crème fraiche to make it really creamy.

To make it extra tasty, add in sweetcorn, onions and/or mushrooms.

If you don't like tuna, the same recipe works really well with chopped up bacon.

Adding a stock cube into the pasta water gives it a bit of extra flavour.

Instead of a bake, keep it simple and mix it all in a big bowl.

Sue from Sutton says: The finishing touch is up to you, you could leave the tuna pasta as it is, it’s very tasty, but occasionally I like to give it an extra kick! Sometimes I add a dollop of mayonnaise, sometimes salad cream, sometimes Worcester sauce, sometimes garlic sauce, sometimes even curry powder! Use your imagination! Of course using low-fat versions of mayo and salad cream brings the fat content right down in the dish. This can be served on its own, or maybe with salad. It’s actually really nice if you mix the salad in with the tuna pasta too!
